CNN Update - Travel + Outdoors + Sustainability

Hi everyone, Greetings from somewhere in the sky. I flew back to NYC last week to catch up on some work, go to loads of appointments I’d pushed back over the past month, and to get ready for my trip to Slovenia. After my little brother’s death, I’m grateful to have spent the past month with family. I considered cancelling this trip but I’ve been looking forward to it for months and thought it would be good for me. I’ve never been to Slovenia and I’m heading on a 12-day hiking trip through the mountains, plus a few extra days for walking and biking around the capital, Ljubljana (which I’m looking forward to learning how to pronounce correctly). I’ll also be testing out some products for CNN and Forbes during the trip. Expect my OOO to be on.

Three Quick Pro Pitching Tips

Hi everyone, AARP Travel just approved a pitch I sent them in February and I sent out a pitch call for inclusions. I got dozens of responses yesterday and I noticed the same mistake over and over in some pitches, and also some great examples of perfect pitches. Dear paid subscribers (and thanks to all of you that signed up during the

Personal Tragedy and Taking Time Off

Three weeks ago, I sent out an email announcing a gang of new CNN assignments I was excited about. I hit send, and headed out for a beautiful hike with my friend and fellow writer, Jacqueline Kehoe. Later that day, my little brother’s body was found in his apartment. He was 36.

CNN has me BUSY! So many new assignments!

Hello from Milwaukee! First off - that picture!!! I flew out of JFK on Friday and the Delta rep asked if I have Delta ID. I said “what?” and they snapped this picture. Apparently, now I have Delta ID and that is my picture. Hilarious! I flew in so I could take my mom to Easter Sunday services yesterday. She hasn’t been able to go in years and I knew it wo…

Shameless donation request for a charity ride I organize

Hi everyone, As some of you know, I’ve been organizing an annual charity bike ride every November for the past 8 years to benefit food justice organizations around Thanksgiving. It’s called Brooklyn Cranksgiving, and next month, I’m organizing a similar ride called

Here's How to Guarantee I See Your Pitch

Happy Spring! It’s cold, windy, and very un-springlike in New York City, but at least the sun is shining! I have two important announcements today: I got a great response to Tuesday’s newsletter about booking a one-on-one call with me so I scheduled those for tomorrow to open up more slots for next week.
