Tobique man reported missing - RCMP

A 33-year-old man from Neqotkuk (Tobique) First Nation has been missing since Friday night, reports the RCMP, and police are turning to the public for help in finding him. The Perth-Andover detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Monday, advising that Alan Mick Moulton, 33, is considered a missing person.

Teen murder suspect wants new lawyer

A teenager accused of killing a man in Nasonworth earlier this month told a judge Monday that he wants a new lawyer, complaining he hadn’t heard from his counsel in days. The 17-year-old Nasonworth boy faces a charge of second-degree murder stemming from the sudden death of a 34-year-old man in that community on May 13.

Underage break-in suspect released

A teenage boy arrested earlier this month after a series of break-ins at Oromocto businesses and a suspicious fire has been released from custody on conditions pending the outcome of his case. The RCMP arrested a Lincoln boy May 16 and charged him with several serious offences.

‘We’re hoping to get justice for my mother’

The largest courtroom in Fredericton’s courthouse was filled to capacity Monday for the latest proceeding for a Burton man accused of killing a Welamukotuk community leader last month. Jared Josiah Smith, 38, of Burton, faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Sheri Lynn Sabattis, 54, and he was back in Fredericton provincial court Monday.

Oromocto pair accused of animal neglect

An Oromocto man and woman will return to court next month to enter pleas after they were charged this week with neglecting a dog last fall. Justin Paul M. MacFadyen, 30, and Melissa Victoria Matheson, 29, both of Maclaren Drive in Oromocto, made their first appearances in Fredericton provincial court Friday to answer to charges laid by animal-protection officers with the New Brunswick SPCA.

McAdam man acquitted in vigilantism case

A McAdam man accused of taking the law into his own hands with respect to an offender and drug addict in the village has been acquitted of assault and firearms charges. Dwain Everett Gardiner, 48, of Rockland Drive in McAdam, stood trial in the Court of King’s Bench before a judge and jury at the Burton Courthouse this week and last on charges alleging he engaged in vigilantism with another area man.
